Description

Drawings made for the beautiful, limited edition novel ‘Daniel, at sea’, by Philip Dundas, published by Backlash Press.

Daniel, at sea is an unfolding tale for an old man who, having become lost in the world, suddenly learns that life can begin at any time and that true love is never to be found where you expect it. It is both an elegy for a lifetime of grief and a celebration of the importance of being true to ourselves.

“Daniel, At Sea is a novel in the great tradition – it unerringly evokes entire worlds and periods, through which the characters, wrestling with their own complexities, move towards love. Without any whipped-up bravura, Dundas dramatises their life experiences, their needs and their sometimes devastating disappointments with a masterful touch. I believed in and was illuminated by every turn and twist of their destinies. An astonishingly mature, many-layered and irresistibly sympathetic account of real human lives lived out in the dark shadow of one of the twentieth century’s most repressive regimes.”
